The Survivor Dream Program (SDP), is non-profit organization taking a novel approach to addressing trauma in West Africa. Established in 2015 during Sierra Leone’s Ebola crisis, SDP approaches trauma by centering adolescent youth and women at the heart of its social development programs. Our programs are founded on three principles: Vision - we believe in human capacity to heal and grow past trauma. SDP has branched from solely been a post-Ebola Survivor project, to a post-trauma and healing mission. Design - Creating roadmaps to recovery by supporting socio-economic dreams and aspirations which are then channeled by supporting community driven innovation solutions to reaching gender equality. Change - We believe in personal change as a catalyst for sustainable impact on community ecosystems. Since its inception in April 2015, SDP has implemented the Women and Ebola program reaching twenty (20) vulnerable women and girls who are survivors of the Ebola Virus Disease in the Western Area District. This was achieved with funding from OSIWA and support from Africell Mobile Company. The women and Ebola program cultivated safe spaces to access psychosocial support, an entrepreneurial culture through the provision of high quality training, as well as, post-training support through the provision of Livelihood grants and services (business mentoring and coaching), as well as educational support to five (5) girls who were willing to return school. SDP ran a series of youth-driven workshops during 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence to ensure that young people were accessing safe spaces to receive information on a) the different types of violence b) share their stories c) embolden them to act as agents of change in their communities
