Balmed Sustainable Agriculture Balmed is an international supply chain operator focussing on organic agriculture, forestry and mining. Balmed developed a unique landuse system for smallholders in Sierra Leone, which guarantees steady income and improved living conditions for small scale farmers and miners in rural areas, as well as a positive impact on the environment. Since 2010, Balmed established more than 100 ha of new organic agroforest cocoa, coffee and recently cashew treecrop blockfarms across Sierra Leone. The Balmed Blockfarming System fully complies with any certification standard, such as UTZ, Organic or Fairtrade. Balmed furthermore offers ISO TC34/SC18 standard on cocoa sustainability to its clients. A state of the art cloud based traceability, impact monitoring and mobile payment system allows the firm to source directly from more than 1300 smallholder farmers in Sierra Leone. In farmer field schools, knowledge on Good Agricultural Practices and sustainability is transfered to the participants.
